Working in partnership for children and communities in Luton

Previously known as Luton Youth Offending Service, our vision was to create a single identity for our partnership of services and to create a structure to adapt to the fast changing contextual safeguarding needs of our children in our communities.

Over the past 12 months, there has been an evolution of our Service as it has developed from a youth justice team into a partnership of services and community organisations that place targeted early intervention at the forefront of our work with children.

Nothing is more important than our children’s welfare and the Service works with some of the most marginalised children in our communities. Consistently taking the views of children into account, we are committed to the idea that children who need help and protection deserve high quality and effective support and intervention.

Our Approach.

Our approach is based on the belief that young people need to take responsibility for their actions and make amends to their community. We involve victims of crimes in the young person’s program to help them understand the impact of their behaviour and make positive changes. We also provide one-to-one support, group programs, restorative justice, and victim awareness work to address the underlying issues that led to offending behaviour.

Over the past 12 months, there has been an evolution of the Youth Partnership Service in Luton as it has developed from a youth justice team into a partnership of services that place targeted early intervention and prevention at the forefront of the work with children.

The vision was to create a single identity for the Youth Offending Service, Targeted Youth Service and Edge of Care which had almost been seen as ‘parts of a whole’ but also to have a structure to adapt to the fast-changing contextual safeguarding needs of our children in our communities.

The Service comprises experienced professionals who specialise in working with children and young people. We work with some of the most marginalised children that sadly can also be the group most likely to record poor health and education outcomes with sometimes unseen issues.

We offer tailored support to help address the underlying problems that lead to criminal exploitation, first-time offending, re-offending and anti-social behaviour with an evidence-based approach that considers the individual needs of each young person.

We provide a range of services including one-to-one supportgroup programsrestorative justice, and victim awareness work. We work in partnership with other organisations, such as the police, schools, and community groups and the aim of our interventions at every level is to significantly improve the outcomes and opportunities for the children and young people in Luton.

Our priorities going forward are to ensure Luton is a safe place to grow up, live and work in and to enable children and young people to make a positive contribution to their communities and achieve positive outcomes for themselves.
